Celeste Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Larry looked thoughtful as he bit into his sandwich, then spoke to Helda: “What we have is that humans are the components of the Universe that lend free-will to it as a some sort of a super computer, through which its inner-workings are computer program routines that are doing something larger than itself. But, intelligent life is going extinct, and if that happens the great AI will cease to have free will and by virtue of the routine in it for free will it will cause the Universe to reset and the Universe will start again because it no longer serves its purpose to what ever it is that is using it. We have figured out that while things on our world are running smoothly, if we take the Galaxy as a whole and the complex problems that arise from differences from planet to planet, from star system to star system, that they are unsurmountable to solve, mainly because no one has a vision for it that will work. Our minds are too simple to solve the levels of complexities that exist.”
Helda answered: “As a historian, I can tell you now while this particular problem is new, in general the type of problem is an old story… Consider the planet Montaria. In its early years of space exploration, it could build ships that would travel to other planets in its own system but could not figure out how to make it the the stars nearby to it, which it needed to do, because due to increasing population and diminishing resources it needed to colonize another star system. But the people distrusted science because only specialists could understand its complexities, leaving the masses unable to understand it, and thus they would not rally behind a space colonization effort. Then came a man named Mulash, who was able to present the complexities of the necessary science to undertake such a program, to the masses and he lead their planet to new star systems, and with that came more worlds, with more resources, and fresh potential, and ultimately the salvation of the planet’s people. It would seem all planets have successful eras but tend towards unresolvable complexities until someone with the right mind can come along and implement a solution. Maybe he is sent by a God, or maybe he is introduced by the operating system that determines the genetic code of humans, inherent in the mechanism by which we evolve into something more sophisticated and makes us capable of handling the problems of the times. Mr. Keysmann, we must find that person, they must exist. Why don’t you take your keys and open that door.”
Larry answered “I think I know what to do…Why change ourselves to meet the needs of the Universe? If it is a giant computer, and we can find the programs it is running, we can go in and edit them so that it changes what it needs of us. Believe it or not, that is as simple as going into billions of lines of code in the right place, and changing a zero to a 1.
